Today is Easter Sunday, a most important holy day for Christians. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Easter holiday moves each year because the actual Easter date is calculated by choosing the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox.
A bit of Easter History
This was originally decided in the year 325 AD, at the Council of Nicaea (present-day Iznik in Turkey). The great Roman Emperor Constantine I assembled the early Christian leaders from across Europe and the Middle East together to fix matters of doctrine and dates of important Christian events such as the date of the Easter festival. Since then Easter has been celebrated on this moving calendar.
