- Columbia loses 9-0 in Lancaster-Lebanon girls softball quarterfinals. “Donegal, L-L champs in 2001-02 and ’09, advanced with a 9-0 victory over Section Four champion Columbia in a continuation of Monday’s game that was suspended by inclement weather.” According to the article, L-L softball: Tribe, Barons to meet for title, “Picking up where the downpour interrupted, the Indians (15-5) poured it onto Columbia in the opener. Taking a 4-0 lead on Kelsey Hannold’s two-run single and Brooke Swarr’s two-run home run, Donegal went back to work Wednesday as Tianna Hatt drove in single runs on a sacrifice fly and a base hit.
“In all, Donegal reached Emily Detz for 13 hits, a far cry from the four safeties the Indians managed in a 2-1, nine-inning loss earlier in the month.
“‘Last time we had trouble hitting,’ allowed Hannold, who finished 3 for 4. ‘We’re getting better as the season goes on. That’s a good thing.’
“Donegal added a pair of runs on errors and Laura Gebhart stroked a solo homer. Hannold finished with a three-hit shutout with Ashlyn Phillips getting two of the three hits for the Tide (17-4).”
