Columbia seeks chief of police:
Letter to the Editor: T.S. Eliot once wrote, “April is the cruelest month.” It sure seemed that way on a recent April morning when I was awakened to the news that a neighborhood landmark was on fire. I spent hours driving back and forth to the Columbia Bowling Alley with a carload of enthusiastic kids. I was so grateful to the staff for giving the teens a safe place to spend time and enjoy themselves. From the late, great Terri Kroft to the wonderful Jamison brothers, the place always welcomed our kids with open arms. They were so patient and generous to their young aspiring bowlers. I remember how proud my son and his friends were when they won the juniors trophy for the Columbia team. I hope that they are able to rebuild the alley so a new generation will also build friendships and memories there. – Michele Hess, Mount Joy
- Your involvement in local government and school processes is super important. Here is a well-written editorial, “Don’t wait to make your opinion known” from a Reading Eagle editor. His on-target topic concludes, “The most important aspect is the public involvement. The people we elect to school boards and other public positions are there to represent us. We need to let them know our priorities and interests. Throughout the process – and not in a tentative way.”
