I find it very surprising that the reports are perfect, no room for improvement? I’m glad if it is a true reflection, still surprised because I almost always see room for improvement on the reports that are published in the newspaper. By the way, why are these not in the newspaper?
The are not in the paper because Columbia remains the only borough in Lancaster County that conducts its own inspections and, at this point, uses its own forms rather than the standard ones used by the state in the inspection process. Columbia’s food establishment inspection criteria are inconsistent with the state’s inspections.
Evidently, Columbia does not release the information to the daily newspaper when inspections are completed. We do not know why the Borough of Columbia Council or Columbia’s Board of Health continue to want to have “Codes personnel” conduct inspections.
At this point, Columbia’s inspections are not included in the State database (http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_6_2_75292_10297_0_43/AgWebsite/Page.aspx?name=Food-Safety-Inspection-Results&navid=31&parentnavid=0&pageid=50&). Perhaps this is an issue that should be addressed at a Board of Health meeting, a Public Safety committee meeting or a Borough Council meeting?
Numerous articles and opinion pieces have been posted at Columbia news, views & reviews on this issue, e.g., https://columbianewsandviews.com/2011/03/15/pa-food-safety-inspections-consistency-is-law/.
