  • Letter to the Editors in today’s Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era: Mountville writer asks: “Why not accept outdated food? I would like to respond to the article concerning local food banks not accepting outdated food. Just because food is past the expiration date does not render it unfit for human consumption. I would venture to say a good percentage of households have, and consume, foods from their refrigerators and cupboards that have expired dates.“I realize there are many people out there who can’t find work and need help, but would they refuse outdated food? I don’t know the reason food banks won’t accept out- dated foods. It could be some government rule or regulation. I would like to quote the late author, Edward Abbey’s philosophy concerning government regulations, ‘Obey few and challenge many.'”

  1. Regarding “The leases have always contained a clause that PPL can end the lease with 60-days notice, so the company considers five years of rent-free living to be a generous offer, he said. But cottage owners see things differently. ‘What they’re planning would render us homeless,’ said Mike Smeltzer. Smeltzer and his wife, Amanda Smeltzer, and their two children bought a cottage at 29 Patton Lane about eight years ago and live there year-round.”

What part of the lease didn’t these dumb-asses understand? Any person with half a brain would have known that they were living in these cottages on borrowed time.
