Quote for todayI walk without flinching through the burning cathedral of the summer.  My bank of wild grass is majestic and full of music.  It is a fire that solitude presses against my lips.” – Violette Leduc, Mad in Pursuit.

  • Legal Notice – This is a very long one (Columbia Borough School District’s information is bold faced) published in the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era on July 15, 2011), but here goes: “Earned Income and Net Profits Tax Notice. Notice is given pursuant to the Local Tax Enabling Act that the school boards of the school districts listed below intend to adopt an Earned Income Tax Resolution the caption and summary of which is as follows: RESOLUTION LEVYING A TAX ON EARNED INCOME AND NET PROFITS; REQUIRING TAX RETURNS; REQUIRING EMPLOYERS TO WITHHOLD AND REMIT TAX; AND RELATED PROVISIONS. Each school district listed below intends to adopt such a Resolution at a public meeting to be held on or after August 15, 2011 and on or before November 1, 2011, imposing a tax for general revenue purposes, at the rate listed below, on earned income and net profits of individual residents. Any tax imposed by a school district as described herein is in addition to any tax on earned income and net profits imposed by any municipality within the school district. The Resolutions will be effective January 1, 2012, and will continue the tax previously imposed at the same rate. Changes have been made in the terms of the currently effective tax levy primarily to conform to requirements of Act 32 of 2008, which is a restatement of the Local Tax Enabling Act, 53 P.S. § 6924.101 et seq. The nature of the tax will be substantially the same as the earned income and net profits tax currently levied, subject to changes required by Act 32. Each Resolution states that all provisions of the Local Tax Enabling Act that relate to a tax on earned in-come and net profits are incorporated in the Resolution. Each Resolution will exempt individuals under the age of 16 years from the tax. The tax will be collected by a collector appointed under Act 32 – currently Lancaster County Tax Collection Bureau. The reason for the new tax levy is to continue the same tax as previously imposed in order to provide revenue for the purposes stated above, and also to conform to Act 32 requirements. The estimated revenue to be derived by each school district from the tax during 2012 is listed below. A copy of the full text of each proposed Resolution may be obtained by any citizen by contacting the respective Business Office of each school district listed below.
