- Last night’s “community development meeting” and a promise delayed – Yesterday, Columbia news, views & reviews stated there would be additional notes from the Monday night council meeting. That was the plan, but because of conflicting events, we have not found time to review our notes to write the follow up. We will continue to work on that. One of the conflicting events was attending very last night’s informal, but enlightening and community-focused and collaborative meeting. It turns out the advertised meeting posted on Monday and Tuesday at Columbia news, views & reviews (A Special Meeting of the Columbia Borough Community Development Committee [Councilors for this committee are Renae Sears, chairperson; Jim Smith; Barry Ford and Mary Wickenheiser, alternate] will be held tonight, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Borough Municipal Building, 308 Locust St., Columbia, PA to address Economic Strategic Plan actions and any other business” was an action-item “progress-report” meeting for the Economic Strategic Plan. 22 people representing the agencies and organizations who combined their energy, vision and talents meet at the borough hall’s council chambers for just over two hours last night to share progress reports on the projects included in the Economic Strategic Plan on pages 43 through 47. Councilor Mary Barninger facilitated the meeting; others from the borough’s leadership attending included: borough manager, Norm Meiskey; councilors Mary Wickenheiser, Mike Beury, Renae Sears, Kelly Murphy and Jim Smith and Mayor Leo Lutz. Others who attended included business, resident and community shareholders from Columbia and Lancaster County. The Economic Development Strategic Plan Advisory Group includes shareholder organizations listed on page 2 of the Economic Strategic Plan. The people in attendance last night willingly and openly shared their concerns and ideas that can unite separate forces to ” concentrate … energies and develop a strategy to benefit all segments of the Borough. All interested citizens and shareholders who want to participate in this collaborative community initiative to position Columbia’s emergence are invited to attend the next scheduled “progress” meeting on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 pm.
