- Joe Pitts “doesn’t like SOPA in its current form” says Tom Murse in his Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era column today. He wrote: “U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts, who told me last weekend that he hadn’t had a chance to seriously review the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act or its companion Protect IP Act, took a stand on the day Wikipedia and other websites went dark in protest of the legislation. Pitts, a Republican, apparently doesn’t like them in their current form. ‘I’m not a cosponsor of SOPA and will only support it if it protects BOTH artists’ rights AND Internet freedom,” Pitts told his followers on Facebook and Twitter. Critics — and there are many — say the legislation threatens free speech and unfettered access to the Internet by allowing the government too much control in battling copyright infringement.”
