- At last night’s continued Council committees’ “meeting of the whole” the topic of pawn shops (pawn brokers; buy/sell places; antiques dealers; re-sellers; re-cyclers) was discussed. Which establishments should be identified in the code that Columbia is considering? There was discussion about devising an ordinance modeled on Lancaster’s, which also deals with junk dealers, antique dealers and recyclers. “More about “pawnbrokers” – Here is how the City of Lancaster addresses “pawnbrokers.” The Borough of Palmyra enacted an ordinance that deals specifically with “Pawn and Second-Hand Shops.” “Usually, pawnshops have to keep detailed records of everything they buy or take as collateral – serial and model numbers, brand name; precious metal type, gemstone description, etc.” according to lawyers.com.

- POLICE LOG: “MANOR TWP.: Eustacio Perez Vasquez, 36, of 226 Franklin Road, Columbia, drove onto the median and struck a traffic sign on Columbia Avenue at Millersville Road on Monday at 5:45 p.m., police said. He left the scene of the crash and continued west on Columbia Avenue. A witness followed Vasquez, wrote down his registration number and notified police. East Hempfield Township police located him on Columbia Avenue at Donerville Road.
