  • “Two men were taken to a local hospital following an accident with entrapment at 6:14 a.m. today. The accident was in the 2500 block of River Road in Manor Township and the road was closed between Anchor and Letort roads. After the two vehicles collided, one went over a guardrail and down about 15 feet into a shallow creek, according to Manor Township police Officer Randy Herman. The vehicle landed on its roof. Both drivers, who were men, were trapped in their vehicles. There were no passengers. Multiple rescue vehicles responded to the scene. • The Daily Beast reports: “As speculation about the iPhone 5 kicks into gear, The New York Times looks into the often brutal factory conditions that make such rapid improvement possible. Apple’s own audits found that hundreds of its supply factories in China require employees—some as young as 15—to work more than 60 hours a week, or more than 6 days a week, sometimes in deadly conditions. Yet fewer than 15 suppliers have been terminated for transgressions since 2007, according to former Apple executives. ‘Right now, customers care more about a new iPhone than working conditions in China,’ a current Apple executive told the Times.”
  • “Clipper Magazine laid off 40 of the 600 employees at its Mountville headquarters Thursday, a company spokesperson said. Our business model has changed a little bit, and our efficiency has increased. So we eliminated positions we no longer need,” the spokesperson said. The affected positions were in art production and sales support. New technology was one factor in the need for fewer people, the spokesperson said. The second and more significant factor was a change in how some markets are being served.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era

  • “POTTSTOWN, Pa. – A suburban Philadelphia middle school’s ban on a popular type of fur-lined boots isn’t about fashion, it’s about cellphones. Pottstown Middle School parents were informed of the new ban on the unlaced boots on Wednesday. District community relations director John Armato tells the Pottstown Mercury students are using the boots to hide cellphones and bring them into class. Current school policy allows students to bring their phones to school but requires them to be kept in their locker during the day. Armato says the ban targets the unlaced boots with fur or faux fur lining made by footwear companies including Ugg. It goes into effect Monday. Principal Gail Cooper says students can still wear the boots to school, but must remove them before going to class.” – York Dispatch
