  • “Jacinta Butler of Columbia was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. – Jennifer Gayman of Columbia was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Temple University, where she is a rising junior majoring in tourism and hospitality management. She also became a member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars at Temple University. A 2010 graduate of Hempfield High School, she is the daughter of Peggy Gayman of Columbia and Jan Gayman of Lancaster. – Amy Jackson was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Villanova University, where she is a rising senior majoring in communications public relations.   • “Columbia-based God Will Ministries will host a FriendRaiser Giveaway Saturday in Lancaster. The event will be held in a vacant lot at 751 High St. from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The giveaway includes items such as food, drinks, clothing of all sizes, household items, small appliances and baby items. All are free to anyone in need. Monetary donations are welcome and will be used to support God Will Ministries’ homeless outreach program. For information contact the Rev. C.T.   • “Pies Galore & More, at 76 E. Main St., Mount Joy, will hold its grand opening this week as part of the borough’s Fourth Friday. The 1,250-square-foot store, with seating for 14 at six tables, specializes in seasonal pies that it serves and sells by the slice and whole pie. Currently, blueberry pies are featured among the 10 to a dozen varieties typically available at any time. Owner Donna Alexander said the store offers a total variety of more than 30 types of pie. And it’s not just pies. The store sells other similar items, including cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, cookies, scones and coffee cakes.
