  • Swimmer missing – Emergency responders were searching for a missing swimmer in the Susquehanna River near East Donegal Township on Wednesday night. Crews were called to an area near the Chickies Rock County Park boat launch, near Marietta, at 7:15 p.m. for a report of three swimmers in distress.” LancasterOnline

  • Coming soon: Did you see this ad in this week’s Merchandiser? Sue’s Market will be opening a stand at the Historic Columbia Market House soon. According to the Market House’s Facebook page, “Sue’s will have full deli meats & cheese line, fresh cut beef and subs!”Last Saturday, most of the Columbia Market House Trust members and the Market House manager were observed working hard to clean up the stand area formerly occupied by a meat and cheese stand holder. The site where Sue’s Market is nearing completion. Look for a new face joining the nucleus of stand holders at market later this month – a baked goods vendor. By the way, you can get hooked on the little cakes topped with peanut butter and dark chocolate from Jill at Ness’s Bakery. The market is open today, tomorrow and Saturday.
  • WGAL picks up on food service establishment inspections – “Restaurant inspections in Pennsylvania fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture. On the department’s website, consumers can search the inspection records of many restaurants. Some cities and municipalities handle restaurant inspections on their own. Those reports may not be available on the state website.”
  • Social Security offers thousands of employees early retirement. – “The Social Security Administration sent employees notices on Monday, giving them an option for voluntary early retirement. About 9,000 employees meet the eligibility criteria, representing 14 percent of SSA’s 62,000-strong workforce.” – Government Executive
  • POLICE LOG:RAPHO TWP.: Yuri M. Garcia-Camacho, 28, of 1105 Central Ave., Columbia, was charged after allegedly punching and slapping a man in the face during a domestic dispute July 27 in the first block of Lancaster Estates. – RAPHO TWP.: Kristi L. Misal, 33, of 2519 Ironville Pike, Columbia, was charged after allegedly injuring two people during a dispute June 30 in the first block of Hemlock Acres Court. Joshua N. Dawber, 30, of 52 Hemlock Acres Court, and Mary McVey, 44, of 58 Hemlock Acres Court, were charged with disorderly conduct as the result of the disturbance.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era
