- Another toppled “hero” re-surfaces the old saw, “Winners never cheat and cheaters never win: An AP article says, “The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he declared he was finished fighting the drug charges that threaten his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.” Here is more from USA Today.
- Voter ID not over yet – “The state Supreme Court ordered Thursday that the hearing be held Sept. 13 in Philadelphia. The order ends a dispute between the law’s opponents, who wanted a September hearing, and the Corbett administration, which urged waiting until October. - School news from an article in the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era entitled ” School news: Technology moves to the forefront as students gear up for a new year.” – “COLUMBIA: High school students will follow a new block schedule of four classes of 82 minutes each, instead of seven 40-minute periods. District officials say the schedule will provide a more concentrated focus on material and allow teachers to go deeper into course content. Six full-time teaching positions have been changed to part time, mostly at the high school, and four professional positions were eliminated, including a high school social studies position and an elementary special-education position. The district has purchased 30 laptop computers for the high school’s mobile computer lab with a $25,000 donation from Columbia Education Foundation. Lunch prices are up 10 cents this year, while breakfast prices will be unchanged.”

A passenger in Straub’s car, Dervin Lee Hackman, 44, of Ephrata, was cited for public drunkenness. – LANCASTER: William V.
