  • Charade one; day three. [NOTE: Washington Post columnist, Dana Milbank, wonders whether conventions are an anachronism. “I’m not sure that having a four-day convention, for the future, makes a lot of sense,” House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Post’s Karen Tumulty and other reporters at a Monday lunch organized by the Christian Science Monitor. He said it may not be “worth the tremendous resources that are put into it.”] Duh, John – Ya’ think!

  1. I nominate V. Detz to fill this position. Oh wait a minute isn’t he the person who gets elected only to resign before his term is up? Didn’t this same thing happen on the school board and borough council previously? I guess those who vote for him get what they deserve.

  2. Wimp- I agree with you. In fact there are a few people in the Columbia area that should resign for running things into the ground. Our Borough needs to look into people who are still on committees just to run things the way they see fit and then the community suffers. Start with the market. Things have ran down since early February. No impact on the decisions that were made. Also the parking is not good either. I am hadicapped and need access accordingly. When I get to the market I see vendors in handicapped spots. I also notice that on the side of the building a vendor parks in the spot designated solely for unloading and loading. No ticket or punishment is ever given. If they are going to allow parking there, it needs to be handicapped! Also the no-smoking policies are a joke- no weight given. Where is the ordinance? The meters- where is the value??, the trash in the streets- all these cameras and no tickets??, the sweeper- I know we have one-but never seen it??, the pawn, antiques- a full town of antiques-nothing else–really??…..I guess when I reflect, what truly is good about the town? Our town spends so much time in drama.. it leaves little room for people who truly care about their town. Agenda’s will never disappear and back door politics will haunt our town forever. This is why we stay in the media as a source of “Black eye” often referred too by the council. I wish this town would spend more energy in given devotion to our students and get them off the lowest rating of schools list and I also wish this town had more positive people with positive impacts. In my 66 years of being in Columbia I have seen my fair share of ignorance. Often the good people are booted right away because they are often out numbered by the dominate ones—> drama hoarders!

  3. amen and amen robert. You accurately touched upon many unsolved problems in the borough. In addition add the “look the other way” regarding drug traffic on the four hundred block of locust street. Also the joke of not having an ordinance requiring id for those bringing items to the local pawn shop, also in the four hundred block of locust street. Couple all this with the poor scholastic performance of our student body. We need a change Robert perhaps good men like you need to run for office in the town. As for me my hearing and mental capacity are slipping to the point that I would be of no value in public office, humm sounds like some of those currently in office.
