- “The Hamilton Watch Co., once one of Lancaster’s great manufacturers, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. Its primary celebration will be held, appropriately, at the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia on Sept. 20. Hamilton was founded in Lancaster in 1892. Its owners set out to manufacture “America’s finest watch.” The company produced millions of precision railroad watches, wristwatches and other fine timepieces, including more than a million watches sent overseas during World War II. Hamilton ended watch production in Lancaster in 1969. The company continued as a member of Swiss conglomerate SMH and its successors. Dozens of Hamilton workers still live in Lancaster County. They no doubt will be interested in the celebration of the contributions of the company and its employees at the Watch and Clock Museum from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 20.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Jornal/New Era
- Game previews: “Columbia (1-0) at Northeastern (1-0): The Crimson Tide opened defense of its district title in spectacular fashion, totaling 521 yards and 52 points against Eastern York. Andrew Combs (23-243, 3 TDs) was key. Northeastern, powered by RB Dan Adam’s 181 yards and 2 TDs, piled up 266 yards rushing against York Catholic.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era and Jeff Reinhart says this: “Columbia (1-0) at Northeastern York (1-0) – Crimson Tide lit up the scoreboard with 52 points in a win over Eastern York. Another directional York school awaits in Week 2; Northeastern topped York Catholic 33-28 in its opener, so a quick start for the Bobcats. Andrew Combs rushed for 226 yards and had three TD vs. Eastern. That’s a great sign that the Tide’s o-line is doing work. Going Columbia here. Last year’s run has really motivated this group to keep on keeping on. Tide floods NY, 33-27.” – Lancaster Lebanon League e-News
