Here’s a scenario: Assume for a moment you have “down the street” neighbors. You and they are not particularly friendly, but you offer to lend them money and they freely accept it. Then they kill your child; you know because you watched them do it!
Are you likely to lend these neighbors anything else … ever again?
If you are confused by the recent actions sensationalized across Muslim nations, you may be more confused by looking at the broken spigot of American dollars pumped into these countries in the form of foreign aid. You may be more confused and bewildered when you throw in the kazillions of dollars mis-spent in warfare in Afghanistan and Iraq combating an elusive and cloaked enemy. To see which nations are slated to receive “foreign aid” development cash, click on the map below to be linked to the foreignassistance.gov Website.
The conservative Website, combustible.com, makes these points about helping friends who turn out not to be friends.
“American foreign aid programs are incredibly expensive and unnecessary. Though our government should eliminate all foreign aid, it is unlikely that they will make any major moves at this point in time — though our economy is in terrible shape, much more terrible than we really know, government is still able to spend money it doesn’t have. A crisis alone is probably the only thing powerful enough to shut-off our global financial pipeline, and a crisis we don’t yet have.
“However, we may be able to make some progress: that is, we may be able to curtail the amount of money that our government foolishly ships overseas.
“Considering the violent September 12 uprisings in Libya and Egypt — the first one claiming four American lives — it should be obvious what our government should do: bar these countries from receiving any further financial aid.
“If our government continues to financially support both Libya and Egypt, by the end of this year alone these countries will have cost the United States over $1.3 Billion Dollars — and that is not considering how much we have already given them in past years.
“Now is the time for our government to reconsider foreign aid and ensure that nations who are hostile towards our people receive nothing from us as far as finances are concerned.
“Already some in Congress are in favor of such aid-cutting measures. Consider Senator Rand Paul’s statement:
“‘The perpetrators of this senseless attack must be brought to justice. I, therefore, demand that until the Libyan police hand over suspects to U.S officials, any U.S. foreign aid to the government of Libya be contingent on their full support in this matter.’
“Now is the time to act — demand Congress to eliminate all foreign aid to nations that are hostile towards the people of the United States. Let the tragic events of September 12 cause our elected servants to begin to seriously reduce our irresponsible ‘benevolence’ towards the rest of the world.”
Honestly, if you ran a government or were an elected “public servant,” what would you do. Consider writing a letter or an email to one of your elected “public servants” and give them your thoughts!
