Earlier this week, districts assured parents they were reviewing safety and security procedures after the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. They reminded families about security measures in place and offered resources for dealing with the tragedy. Christmas meals – “The annual Columbia-area initiative by the Columbia Lions and the Sunsnappers organization, being held Sunday. Some 550 baskets are to be delivered this year in the Columbia, Wrightsville, Marietta and Mountville areas. The baskets include a turkey, potatoes, apples, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, soups, filling, cereal and canned goods. Organizers also are working with Toys For Tots to include a gift for children. In recent years, more than 100 helpers have assisted on the day of delivery. The baskets will be put together Sunday starting at 9 a.m. at Columbia No. 1 Fire Department, on Front Street.
