“Wrightsville Elementary students have a new motivation for cracking open a book, thanks to a special grand prize announced Monday during the kickoff assembly of the York Revolution 2013 edition of Boomer’s Book Club.
“Named after team dog Boomer, the community outreach program allows students to choose books outside of their curriculum and track their reading. For their efforts, participants can receive a York Revolution ticket, a stadium kid’s meal, a Revolution cheer stick and a Boomer’s Book Club book bag.
“This year, if Wrightsville students achieve the goal of reading 2,000 books by the Revs’ season opener on April 18, school principal Donald Gillett will sleep on the roof of the sch00l.
“This pronouncement received loud cheers from assembled students.
“‘I’ll make it nice. I’ll get a tent and a grill,’ Gillett informed the students.
“Additionally, if the Revs’ win their opener and continue winning, Gillett will continue sleeping on the roof of Wrightsville Elementary until they lose, totaling a possible 16 nights of camping out.
“‘However, it all starts with you,’ Gillett told the students, reminding them that his camp-out will only happen if they reach their reading goal.
