  • Former Columbian – “An Akron man was sent to prison after he was charged with sexually assaulting an 86-year-old woman at a nursing home early Sunday morning, Ephrata police said. Glenn A. Hershey, 65, was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and sexual assault, police said. Hershey and the woman lived at Maple Farm Nursing Center, 604 Oak St., Akron, at the time of the incident, police Det. Graeme Quinn said. Hershey was arraigned before District Judge Rodney Hartman and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.” – LancasterOnLine

  • Christopher John Detz was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester with a 4.0 grade-point average at Kutztown University, where he is a sophomore majoring in business administration. A 2011 graduate of Columbia High School and is the son of Vernon and Michelle Detz of Columbia. –  Jill-Christine Wiley of Washington Boro was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Dyson College of Arts & Sciences at Pace University in New York. A sophomore majoring in musical theater, she has earned SECOND honors for the fall semester. A former Penn Manor School District student, she is the daughter of Keith and Deb Wiley.” – Shay Bromer of Marietta was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in Saint Mary’s City, Md.
