Where is spring? This extended cold weather has retarded the magnificent colors of spring! A single crocus appeared, but the magnolia buds are waiting.

• Last year this was the crocus mound on March 12. By that measure, we figure we’re about three to four weeks behind. This year, the grip of winter just won’t let go. Last year, March was so warm that many folks mowed their lawns three times in the month. The tradeoff: burn a little less of higher priced gas for the mower and burn a lot more higher priced heating oil to keep warm. Global warming? Not here.
