today’s news … Friday, August 30

today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today “If you stood to gain a pile of cash if we went to war, would you then root for war?” – Just Fred, commenter, at the York Daily Record‘s exchange. It’s all about the money: Let’s start a war so some folks can make money!!!

  • Big, non-news, story in several media about the search: lots of words with essentially no explanation from the state police. The real news is the irresponsible police response on the highways.
  • When driving north on Rt. 222 yesterday morning, it wasn’t hard to notice the several contingents of “lights flashing, sirens on” police cars and a SWAT truck headed south toward Lancaster. By the time we got to the turnpike interchange we counted 18. What could command this kind of police response? Tracking the response by text, phones and Internet, the only thing we could find was the above drug search at 4560 Klinesville Road. We found this at 4560 Klinesville Road, too. Could that be the reason that that many public safety resource vehicles were speeding down the highway? Seems excessive. Spending that kind of resource effort (manpower, vehicles, time, fuel) for a piddly (and alleged) $50K cash stash and marijuana is a lousy return on investment. Don’t we just love the “confidential informant (CI)” tag, too. Some CI made the allegation, allegedly, and then served as a police-endorsed buyer of an illegal substance. Wonder what the CI got in exchange? Wonder whether the CI’s has arrest records or if the CI is a squeaky clean individual?
  • A legal notice soliciting bids for “delivery of liquid cationic polymer to Columbia Borough Wastewater Treatment Plant” appears in a local newspaper.

and this is ...… and this is?
