Can you create a masterpiece out of gingerbread, icing and candy? Do you have an eye for sweet design? The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce invites you to show off your creation in our Gingerbread House Contest, planned to be held in conjunction with the November Fourth Fridays in Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville. Register your intent to participate by contacting the SVCC Visitors Center at 684-5249 on or before November 15, 2013, for a registration form. Forms may also be found at www.PaRivertowns.com on the Fourth Friday page. A modest fee and some basic information will allow you to share your sweet architectural skills with the public.
The contest will kick off on Friday, November 22. Entered gingerbread buildings will be placed in one of our participating Fourth Friday venues. The public will have an opportunity to visit all of the locations and to vote on each gingerbread creation until Saturday, November 30. After all votes are in, winners from two age categories will be chosen and given a cash prize.
Don’t want to build a house, but still have an appreciation for sweet creations? Come and vote on the entered houses while visiting Fourth Friday locations on November 22, 2013, between 5 and 9 pm. Stop by the Visitors Center during those hours to enjoy a demonstration by students of the Mount Joy Career and Technology Center’s Baking and Pastry Arts class. You have until December 1 to visit the locations and enter your ballot at the Visitors Center’s ballot box. A random winner will be drawn from voters. All winners will be notified by December 3, 2013. To enter the contest or for more information, please visit www.parivertowns.com or call 717.684.5249.
