On Thanksgiving …

Happened onto to this, too:

“As Thanksgiving approaches, we, The Columbia Historic Market House Trust, would like to take an opportunity to express our thanks.

“As many of you know, our mission is to carry on the vision of an in-town public market by providing a community gathering place that celebrates people, food and agricultural traditions while joining the ongoing efforts to revitalize the downtown. We are THANKFUL that you have entrusted us with these responsibilities.

“In the past year, we have witnessed AMAZING support from YOU, as you have graciously supported the small business owners who call the Market House home. We are THANKFUL to have a community who enjoys events like the Fall Food Festivals, celebrations honoring your vendors for their achievements, and Columbia’s Christmas Celebration. This is YOUR Market House and we are THANKFUL to be a part of it.

“We are THANKFUL for the three Borough Council members for believing in OUR community and are hopeful the others will soon share their support of Columbia and it’s citizens. Last night’s 4-3 vote AGAINST making a donation to YOUR Market House is only a minor setback. Our plans to update stands, attract new vendors, and create a thriving economic center to boost the quality of life for you will always carry on. We are of the mindset that, ‘A setback is a setup for a comeback.’ WE WON’T LET YOU DOWN.

“To each of you, our fans, our supporters, THANK YOU for standing by our side as we “Continue the Tradition” of The Columbia Historic Market House.”

OPINION: Isn’t it confounding and astounding that a slice of the councilors continue to harbor enmity and ill will, on one hand, by withholding financial support for one community entity while, at the same time, doling out to others? This slice of councilors allows the Borough to extol the Columbia Historic Market House at the top right of its Homepage by saying “BE SURE TO VISIT OUR MARKET HOUSE OPEN EVERY THURSDAY , FRIDAY and SATURDAY!.” The Borough Webpage “What to see” prominently markets the Market House atop the page.

Most people in the community, it seems, proudly boast about the Market House – heck, one local artist sells Columbia Market House Christmas ornaments on Craigslist. Paranormal enthusiasts and real estate listings regularly refer to the Market House. Recently, the stand holders at the Market House “stepped up by volunteering to contribute” food for first responders during a search and rescue operation – it’s uncertain whether any other “brick and mortar” sandwich makers did that.

Enough with the grudge matches – move on. Support the Columbia Historic Market House!
