today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today… “James Franklin was all in. Until he was all out. Vanderbilt fans who now feel scorned are seeing a side of Franklin that others saw long ago. He talked about the team but it was really all about him. And he saw Vanderbilt as a means to an end.” – David Climer, Nashville Tennesseean column: “It’s time to turn the page at Vandy”.

  • Columbia wins grant “to develop a plan to reach out and enroll children and families in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. – LancasterOnline
  • The names change: This notice appears in the recorded deeds this week, “Gene E. Miller and Gail L. Miller conveyed property on South Sixth St. to Sun Lane Ventures LLC for $1.” So what is Sun Lane Ventures? Curiously, the address is the same. Is Sun Lane Ventures the next BHI?
  • It’s really bad when last week’s restaurant inspection says, “The Person in Charge is not enforcing food safety in this food establishment.” When you know the food safety rules and don’t enforce them, it may be time to reevaluate operations at this Landisville eating place. Ditto, if you’re unlucky enough to eat at this Columbia Avenue eating place just east of Mountville that also racked up a bunch of violations.
  • Joe Heller’s right on the mark when he says, “Ten letters from Joe and Suzie taxpayer are trumped by one phone call from a well-funded lobbyist.” in a letter to the editor in today’s Sunday News. The tragedy is that everyone knows the political structure is rife with this kind of garbage and yet, we don’t seems to step to take out the trash.
  • Refreshing, but really … This is in a legal notice in today’s Sunday News: “There will be a Facilities Committee meeting of the Penn Manor School District Board of Directors on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. in the Board Room at Manor Middle School. This meeting is open to the public.” It’s great that the public is being invited to a meeting for tomorrow morning today. We’re pretty sure that everyone’s calendar in open and they’re just waiting for something to do. This kind of a public notice is tantamount to not having a notice.
