18 GREAT PLACES TO EAT OUT IN OR NEAR COLUMBIA PA USA

I’ve had great food at the following 18 eating places, all half an hour drive or closer to Columbia PA USA (one or two my require slightly longer, but not much).

Everybody should combine “eating out” with “eating in” (i.e. at home), and here are some ideas for Columbia PA locals.  My favorite items are noted, but each place has other good things offered.

1. BLUE HERON, York PA (Market St)…Best food item: Brunch menu at 11am….. smoked salmon and cream cheese crepes for $12.95.

2. LYNDON’S DINER, Lancaster PA (Rt. 72N, Manheim Pike, Cor. Rt. 30)…Best food item: Eggs Benedict plus cash register cake dessert.

3. STEEPLECHASE JACK’S Jewish Deli, Lancaster PA (No. Queen St.)…Best food items: Hot pastrami, Cherry Cheese Knishes, NY Cheesecake.

4. SWEENEY’S DELI., Lancaster PA (Main store and coffee bar: PA Rt. 72N aka Manheim Pike, also ROOTS and Lancaster Downtown Farmers’ Mkts.)….Best food item: Pear slices/ Pecan nuts salad, Raspberry Tapioca, Creamed Chip Beef, Pork Bar-B-Que.

5. UNION STREET GRILL, Columbia PA (Union St. and 4th St.)…Best food items: Tues night steak special, Thursday night hamburger special, Big hamburgers, Nachos.

6. BULLY’S, Columbia PA (Columbia Road and Union St.)…Best food item: Rubbed Pepper Steak, Salmon over rice,  “Blondie” pastry and ice cream for dessert.

7. HINKLE’S, Columbia PA (Locust St. and 3rd St.)…Best food item: Bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar, butter patties, raisins, and milk.

8. JOHN WRIGHT RESTAURANT, Wrightsville, PA (Front St.)…Best food item: Sunday brunch starting at 11 AM Sundays….$18.   Also hamburgers.

9. ACCOMAC INN, Wrightsville, PA (Next to Susquehanna River north of Wrightsville)….Best food items: Hot fudge sundaes and coffee. Omelettes for breakfast.

10. WRIGHTSVILLE PA FRONT ST. BAR AND CHICKEN/ FRIED FISH RESTAURANT (not actual name….(Front. St. on south end of town)…Best food items: Weds. night “all you can eat” chicken and fish special.

11. COLUMBIA PIZZA, Columbia PA (Locust St. and 4th St.)…Best food item: Spaghetti and Meat Balls with both hot garlic bread and side salad.

12. CHINESE RESTAURANT/TAKE OUT, KMART SHOPPING CENTER, Columbia PA (Prospect Rd. and Columbia Rd.)…Best food item: Moo Goo Gai Pan, Fried Rice, Egg Roll.

13. PRESS ROOM RESTAURANT, Lancaster PA (King St. near “the Square” and Lancaster Farmers’ Mkt.)….Best food item: Hamburgers and beer.

14. CARR’S RESTAURANT, Lancaster PA (Prince St. next to Lancaster Farmers’ Mkt.)……Best food item: Kobe Beef Hot Dog Special.

15. LANCASTER FARMERS MARKET LUNCH TABLES, Lacaster PA (Prince St. near “the Square”)….Best food items: Amish coconut custard, Sweeney’s salads to go…eat at tables provided by market.

16. ROOTS Farmers Market Hot Dog Counter (Cold Weather) Or Outside Picnic Tables (Warm Weather) Sit down area, East Petersburg, PA (PA Rt. 72N and Lititz Road)….Best food items: Single Fried Oyster Sandwiches, Amish Coconut Custard, Ice Cream Cones ($1.50 Child’s size single scoop…Raspberry), Greek Feta Cheese quiche.

17. GENERAL SUTTER HOTEL Inside Or Outside Patio (Warm Weather), Lititz, PA (Center of Lititz PA)…..Best food item: Hot Fudge Sundae or other ice cream and cake dessert with coffee (NEVER order hot food here…..extremely, unreasonably overpriced…stick with dessert and coffee).

18.SALADWORKS, Centerville PA and Lititz PA shopping centers…Best food item: Cobb Salad.

David Roger Allen (born 1944 NYC NY USA – ) is an entertainer/ actor, a Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) union member (professional name: “Tex Allen”). He sings, dances, does stand up comedy.  He appeared in 30+  major Hollywood studio movie and TV drama productions from 2004 – 2014 and others before 2004), specialized in pantomime background actor work.
