today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today… “Although a rising tide would lift all boats, many of America’s richest prefer a lower tide and bigger yachts.” – Quote extracted from Robert Reich’s column, “Why the three biggest economic lessons were forgotten.”

  • Weather forecasting! There’s a dusting of snow outside early this morning; far less than those who tell us about the coming weather told us there would be overnight. Yesterday an acquaintance from upstate called to find out how much snow was on the ground. We talked about the reliability of the forecasters. Acquaintance swears the best weather source is Eastern PA Weather Authority’s facebook page. There’s more detail about weather at their Website. And it looks like up to six more inches today. And who doesn’t like winter?
  • While we’re on winter. As folks like Sid and Sally Citizen, you and I are digging out, it’s well we remember the folks who go above and beyond during the extreme weather we’re experiencing. The neighbor with a bigger, more powerful than a snow shovel snow moving device; the postal workers; the newspaper delivery persons; the store clerks; the restaurant workers; the volunteer fire fighters and auxiliary members; and the public safety and public works staffers who go above and beyond.
  • Gotta’ love Lancaster City Mayor Rick Gray’s quote in today’s Lancaster New Era editorial: “‘We’ve made a pledge of treating our residents like customers,’ Gray said.” Sigh, if only.
  • Columbia’s “State of Emergency” status: check the Borough Website.  This note’s been added” “Please help clear our storm drains. If you notice ponding in the street it is because the storm drains are covered by snow. Our Borough crews are working diligently to correct the problem but your assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.”
