Today’s news … continued

  • Dog flap? Dog crap! A Columbia news, views & reviews reader contacted us to ask whether we’d heard “a story” that the police department’s new handler had resigned from the K-9 handler position. We have not, but would not be surprised due to the subterfuge and undercurrents in the department and in the K-9 community. Pedro had better begin to “crash-proof” himself if there is any truth to the rumor. And Columbia news, views and reviews often has written about the issue of dog doo-doo (aka crap). (1) On May 3, 2013: “Policing of dog “doo-doo.” Chief Bromer related a recent personal instance: He got out of his police vehicle at the police station and immediately saw a pile of dog defecation on the sidewalk right by the station. (2) In April, 2013, the borough “task(ed) a police officer to verify dog licensing and tags and to keep a lookout for dog doo-doo violators. (3) On July 9, 2012, we showed pictures of doo-doo on the sidewalk on Locust Street across the street from Hinkle’s. (4) May 12, 2011 – doggie doo-doo on the sidewalk. This one had a happier ending as the owner returned to police the poop. Need more? Read Chris Vera’s comment about doo-doo pick-up at Cole Umber’s Website.
  • “We want to add over $2 trillion more in economic activity and tens of millions of new jobs.” Those are the words of Joe Hockey, the Australian treasurer, at the G-20 two-day meeting in Australia. A more cautious response came from Wolfgang Schäuble, Germany’s finance minister after the meeting: “What growth rates can be achieved is a result of a very complicated process. The results of this process cannot be guaranteed by politicians.”

  • F-35 Costs $182 Million to $299 Million Per Plane – “The much-maligned, single-engine F-35—which suffers from a complex design and a lack of maneuverability—currently costs twice what its proponents are projecting. And don’t buy the argument that the jet’s sticker price will substantially drop in coming years. Lockheed’s been making that claim for a long time now, and it hasn’t happened yet.” – OutsideTheBeltway.com

Read this LancasterOnLine article: Site-seeing: AbandonedAmerica.org about Mt. Gretna photographer, Matthew Christopher, trek resulting in an awesome look of what happens to old, unused spaces. • Interesting LEGAL NOTICE in the Sunday News: Penn Manor’s School Board will have a public meeting to “discuss a School Dress Code.” Reckon the District’s had enough of the “looks.”
