today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “Thanks for nothing… Headline with no news!! Lol ! What a joke” – Facebook commenter to a post about a shooting in Millersville earlier this morning. FOLLOW-UP: Shooting is suicide; victim shot himself several times? – LancasterOnLine

- Turnabout is fair play: West Hempfield home invasion turn-about – WGAL-TV8
- ” … one of the two suspects (in the above story) is the son of an officer who works in the West Hempfield Township Police Department.” – FOX-43
- State announces “good news / bad news” program for veterans. The Good News: “Governor Corbett signed Act 176 2012 into law allowing for the issuance of a Pennsylvania Driver’s License or Identification Card that clearly indicates that the bearer is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. This is being accomplished by adding a Veterans Designation directly to the bearer’s Driver’s License or Identification Card.” The bad news: Veterans have to pay for the designation according to the Webpage: ” … qualified applicants must pay any initial issuance; renewal or duplicate Driver’s License or ID fees.” Kinda’ of “blue-light special” to get you to buy something you didn’t need in another aisle.
- PA may have to change its license plate slogan to PA – not a happy state. – The Washington Post
- Early last month, Columbia news views & reviews posted this: You know all those calls you get from the alternative electricity providers? Read this letter to the editor at PennLive.
“The power to switch means you could save more money on your electric bill,” what is says at the Pennsylvania Utility Commission’s website, PaPowerSwitch.com. That could mean, too, that you could not save more money? Here’s more about the rash of switching in Lancaster County in today’s Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era; the article says Lancaster and York Counties have the most complaints.
- So how out of touch with reality and in bed with big business are our legislators? Two more letters to the editor and an Intelligencer Journal opinion are in today’s Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era condemning the electricity provider switch bill the bozo from Montgomery County proposed.
- Four days ago, The Morning Call carried an article with these lines: “The best solution might be to rethink deregulation altogether, but that may be impossible. Too many politicians would have to give back the money invested by special interests like Ken Lay in ‘political campaign contributions.’ So we’ll have to settle for the next best solution — somehow finding a way to keep the Mensch disaster from ever becoming law, and then rely on caveat emptor.”
- Another “gentle” facebook post, though an effort at sarcasm: “I’m glad they used extra money to refurbish the clocks instead of giving gimps what they need. Who cares if the bathrooms arent up to code- no one wears a watch or carries a phone with a clock anymore. Priorities!! (Sarcasm)” It’s deplorable that the “completed” Amtrak train station does not have “accessible bathrooms” for persons with a disability.
- Federal state and local funds pumped millions of dollars into the station’s re-structure. The Americans with a Disability Act is a federal law. Do the right thing right the first time.
- Radio Shack is regrouping; closing stores. – The Morning Call, Allentown
