today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today“He (the mayor)  had no damn business being in this room.” “The mayor shoots his mouth off!” and “I’ve been trying to get rid of Buchart-Horn for as long as I’ve been on council.”- Council president’s comments at Monday’s council of the whole meeting about recent happenings at the confidential diligence meetings with the Lancaster Area Sewer Authority’s possible consolidation with Columbia’s sewer operations. Apparently, the mayor “shot his mouth off” about what he’d heard when he related information he’d gleaned from the meeting to citizens at a Columbia restaurant.

CBSD financial Website

  • Columbia Borough School District financial documents Website page is good model for the borough to emulate. Getting there is a maze. Use a search engine to find Columbia Borough School District – then click on the DISTRICT tab – then click on the BUSINESS OFFICE tab – then click on FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS – scroll down to find the document you want to inspect.

  • Should Columbia promote its “Top Places to visit” accolade? The question came up at Monday’s council of the whole meeting; only very perfunctory discussion was given to the topic and no action was taken. How about banners across the highways or streets? Each year when Lancaster Catholic High School has its festival, there’s a banner stretched across 501/222. How about billboards? How about door and window stickers that businesses and residents could use? How about a logo that anyone could incorporate into stationary, marketing materials; websites?

no rah rah

  • Maybe some good places to start would be the Columbia Borough Website and the Chamber of Commerce Website? These sites should be the “rah rah” leaders. There’s no mention of Columbia’s mention in the article at either site. How about letting visitors and passers-by know about the Smithsonian’s recognition?

page oneLancaster Newspapers, Inc. gave a page one splash last Saturday, though.

  • Coverage void on local TV – anyone notice the absence of Columbia’s recognition on local television stations? Searches at the Websites come up empty?
