today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “So if it’s raining, have no regrets, Because it isn’t raining rain, you know, (It’s raining violets,)” – From “April Showers,” sung by Al Jolson.

Clockwise from top left: The sign at the entrance of River Park; the park’s getting spruced up. Some new plantings and the rain gardens have been cleaned. Too bad there are so many cigarette buts littering the grounds. This should be a no smoking area, because those cigarette butts get washed, blown and dragged into the River.
The bulletin board “inside the wire” of the new trail services building construction site. Too bad most people cannot read the postings from outside the wire.
Three young “fisherpersons” head to the River.
Ambulance on Third Street with lights and sirens. Sirens frequently contaminate the audio landscape in Columbia. This ambulance was a Northwest EMS 8-6 vehicle; isn’t the service provider for Columbia Susquehanna EMS? Recently, in another town, we watched responding ambulances with lights only. Wonder why the difference? More than one report nationally indicate “running hot” (with lights and sirens) may not be warranted many times. Here’s the Statewide Basic Life Support (BLS) Protocols-2013 in which the standards are set.
This pipe, in the gully north of the stone wall in River Park, is leaking a fluid at the connecting joint. It’s pointed towards the river; hard to say where it comes from. Wonder what the pipe is transporting? Water? Sewage?
