“Time for a second Constitutional Convention?” – NewsLanc

We found this an intriguing column.

By Robert Field | NewsLanc.com

“In order to save our republic from slipping away, the need has arisen to bring about controls on how elections are funded and to alter the structure of our federal government.

“Given their experiences and struggles with England, our founding fathers understandably had distaste for the parliamentary form of the British government, with its powerful monarchy and the House of Lords that shared power with the House of Parliament. They focused on checks and balances against future abuse of power.

“But both the English and American governments have evolved over almost two and a half centuries, the former for the good. We should take another look.

“Perhaps it takes oldsters to believe in reform. They have lived long enough to have witness much change taking place. Those who are observant of such matter understand that bringing about change requires much work, devotion, perseverance, and time… more often than not, a lot of time.”

  1. I cringe every time I hear everybody jumping on the “We need a Constitutional Convention” band wagon.

Are people conscious of what has been going on in our nation?

Corruption is rampant. Elections are fixed, crimes go unpunished (Fast & Furious, T.S.A., I.R.S., Benghazi, etc.) and the checks and balances that were the wisdom of our Constitutional Republic have been compromised, if not entirely destroyed.

We have a president who has thrust us into a debt that far surpasses the debt created by all previous administrations combined since the origin of these United States.

He has written executive orders that grant him unlimited authority to control every aspect of our lives if, and most certainly when, he creates a national emergency which can then be used to declare martial law.

Every area of our government that had the power to curtail his run at a dictatorship has been compromised by replacing the top leadership with his hand-picked supporters.

My point? … When the Constitution is opened to amend it, what is open to change is not just the subject that everybody felt a need to be corrected, but any subject that arises from the floor.

Our Constitution could be literally destroyed in regards to what it once was. This is a very dangerous situation.

With the corruption and deceitfulness that has taken control of our government, do you really think that it cannot reach into that convention and drive the final nail into the coffin of what was once the greatest government ever to rule on this earth? Think about it.

    • Mike … while not about to play hopscotch in a political party minefield; we found this line in the column interesting: “To further complicate matters, the Supreme Court at times becomes highly political, delivering decisions lacking apparent solid basis in law or legal precedents.”

That being said, could not a great deal of current dissent; widening income levels and overall mistrust of government could be put right on their doorstep?.
