today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… ““Looking for the ideal Father’s Day gift? Make a child suport (sic) payment!!!” – text message from York County’s York County Domestic Relations Office, in this The York Dispatch article.
- Wrightsville will honor bridge defender, an “unknown black militiaman,” in ceremony – The York Dispatch
- “Fix existing problems before adding potential new ones.” What a great lead-in to this article about a citizens protesting a jurisdiction in which “The supervisors do not keep us informed about these meetings to help us make decisions or know what’s going on in our township.” – LancasterOnLine
-
From the new business in town’s facebook page: “So, the first weekend after our Grand Opening, UGI left us this present at our entrance. Directly in front of our no parking signs, which exist for the purpose of making space for our food truck. Plenty of open spaces on the other side of the street. Thank you, UGI, for helping local businesses. Inconsiderate dunderheads!”

- Great idea here! “For this weekend, Diana Marshall will again have her food truck out front in addition to our standard lite fare. Her current offerings can be found in the attached menu.” From the Columbia Kettle Works facebook page, too.

- “Meeting on proposed gas pipeline through Lebanon County: ‘We know what we’re doing’ vs. ‘I’m not wanting it’” – Harrisburg Patriot-News
- “The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, along with major sponsors Union Community Bank and Donegal Insurance Group will host the 34th annual Antique, Art & Craft Show on Saturday, June 28 from 9 am to 3pm.”The name describes the offerings available at this popular outdoor event which features 200 vendors filling Locust Street Park and lining the main thoroughfare. Look for a mixture of artwork, crafts, antiques, and food. Enjoy music provided by the Twin Rose Community Band (formerly the Columbia VFW Band) from 10:30 to 11:30, or enjoy the antics of Sneakers the Clown as he entertains the young and the young at heart.”When you visit Locust Street Park, be sure to stop by the Civil War encampment. Signs are manifestations of codes and ordinances. If there are signs, enforce them. If no one wants to enforce them, don’t have them. The dog with us last night at River Park was the only one on a leash. We saw five others unleashed and running free.
Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs
(bleepin’) up the scenery, breakin’ my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign – “Signs” – a 1970s classic – (originally by The Five Man Electrical Band)
- Another case of blast the medium, or the writer. In this case, a slew of folks are up in arms about George Will’s column that suggests that sexual assaults on college campuses are resultant from “what colleges have sewn.” Another message might be, freedom of speech and expression is OK except when someone makes a “dumass” commentary or says something you don’t like or approve of. Will’s thoughts in this “dumass” column was original and his – it wasn’t plagiarized.
