Council approves sewer system sale

At tonight’s council meeting of the whole, the vote was 4 – 2 to sell the borough’s sewer system to LASA. Councillor Smith was absent.

More details will follow.

Tonight’s meeting opened to a gallery of somewhere in the neighborhood of three dozen folks who came to the meeting primarily for two reasons: the anticipated vote on the sewer system and the “nagging issue” of  fire department consolidation under the guise of buying enhanced emergency responder radio equipment. At the end of the nearly four hour meeting, council approved an expenditure of just over $160,000 to outfit the current fire department resources … of three separate departments.

The radios will be purchased under a contracted per unit price negotiated by the county in 2012.

The council president opened the meeting at 6:04 pm; all the councillors, except Jim Smith, were in attendance. No announcement of his whereabouts was made. The mayor, borough manager and borough finance officer were also present.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:53 pm.
