- A friend’s death: On Thursday afternoon, we received a phone call from a friend who told us that another friend had passed away. Our friend was a gorgeous pit bull owned by another friend in southeastern Lancaster. Mr. Big, had cancer and died on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm. “Big” was a gorgeous pit bull we’d got to know about three years ago. He was an aspiring therapy dog with an enormous appetite for “play.” This hunk of a dog was gentle, gregarious and affectionate. He loved to interact with persons with disabilities. His owner trained him with love. He was not a piece if “weaponized arm candy” as so many of them are. Tito, I am so sorry for your loss. You cared so much for “Big” that you trained him to be the kind, gentle and adoring pit bull that his breed can be. Mr. Big, went gently to heaven on Thursday afternoon and his owner’s heart is emptier today. So it mine.

- Nepotism, in school districts, school boards, in business, in government, does not necessarily benefit anyone – even the “nepotee.” Ever wonder if some people run for offices or hold positions just to get jobs for relatives?
