today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today… “The most liberal Democrat could not have done more to harm the state’s fiscal future than ‘Republican‘ Ridge did with the stroke of his pen.” – Oren Spiegler, in this Harrisburg Patriot-News opinion article, “Gov. Corbett sounded the alarm on pensions – history will thank him.”

  • The rest of the story, though, is that everyone who lives in Pennsylvania now, and somewhere down the road, will pay for this big time as a result of another case of inept “big spender” politicos who promised “medicine show” miracles. Who pays for all the grants? Your kids and grand-kids will get the bill. Paul Krugman’s column, Addicted to inflation, is a worth-while read, too.

“It’s not the dog; it’s the owner.” The t-shirt asks “Who is to blame? When will they blame the humans.” This photo is from this article: Pro-pit bull group protests PennLive

  • Just look at some of the posts at some of the facebook sites that proliferate in the digital world! Clearly, the educational environment has failed society.

  1. In lieu of raises to keep up with private sector job wages, the state offered to contribute money to the pension funds for the state workers. Not only have they NOT contributed all those years, but they also dipped into what WE paid in, using it as a reserve bank account. Now, 60% of PA state workers are of retirement age, and that promised money is not there. Don’t blame us for working all those years to get a pension, blame the politicians with their hands in our pockets, both yours and mine.

  2. You hit the nail squarely on the head, Liane. Horribly represented by elected public servants, citizens, employees and state workers will bear the brunt of this inept, greedy, self-serving, money-grubbing debacle. Where are the statesmen and stateswomen? When will we begin to elect, and hold accountable, responsible and ethical leaders who understand fundamental principles of leadership? And basic economic principles?
