- Why citizen involvement in government is important. Until recently, Columbia news, views & reviews regularly reported on council meetings and shared observations on what transpired during those meetings. Cole Umber has been posting well-crafted observations on the meetings, too. We regularly state: “REMINDER: For those who were not at the meeting, the transmission of ‘who said what’ and ‘what happened’ is left to those who came to the meeting to document the night’s activities. Others in the borough will get verbal reports from those who attended or written interpretations from others. The only way to get a full report is to attend meetings.”
Here, for example, is the official borough record of what happened at the August 11, 2014 council meeting: 8-11-14 Signed Borough Council Minutes and Agenda
Here are two posts from Cole Umber’s news site: Council meeting report and citizen comments.
If you want to see what happened, what is said, who is saying what and watch the facial expressions, the intonations and the gestures, you have to go to the meetings.
