- USA Today article about Columbia’s Mardi Gras Parade: “The month of October brings Columbia’s residents out into the streets again, with a carnival atmosphere that includes an annual Mardi Gras Parade. Though fashioned after the famous Mardi Gras parades of New Orleans, this one takes place in the autumn, rather than in February. Thousands show up to watch the procession of masked revelers, as well as demonstrations by citizen groups such as the Columbia Fire Department. Firefighters don their uniforms and march in the parade to demonstrate their commitment to the community.”
