today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “Still no trash cans = no where for visitors to throw their trash. The rest of the park looked great the first year with flowers planted etc. Now those areas are overgrown with weeds. Hopefully someone maintains this place!!” – One of the comments about the “River Trail Building at River Park” at the “You know you’re from Columbia” facebook page.

Regarding “Still no trash cans = no where for visitors to throw their trash.” Cans were removed form area near boat ramp due to abuse by public, including leaving behind a used microwave. Cans are not dumpsters to be used by island dwellers and boaters. Regarding trash, if you brought it, take it with you. Free trash removal service for these folks was not part of the deal. Cans will most likely be placed near the trail service building. Regarding “Now those areas are overgrown with weeds.” Areas were planted with wild type plantings that do not require as much maintenance; while I agree that weeding needs done, I suggest to the commenter that you take some of your idle time and use it weeding the gardens. Its called public service. You know, give back to your community rather than take or complain.
