Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce invites the public visit our local galleries and restaurants in Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville.

In Wrightsville, Weavings, Ink is having an opening reception for their “Then and Now” Exhibit, displaying work from Robert Hammer, Richard Chandler Hoff, Phyllis Koster, Robert Oughton, Nick Pastal, Joel Springer, and Mary Todenhoft. These seven York County artists are exhibiting artwork which shows the progression of their art from their early childhood to their current professional career.

Jonal Galley/Alverta Arts Shop will be featuring two artists; Richard Chandler Hoff – “Creating History – That Never Happened”, featuring graphite pencil drawings of the by-gone era of the 1940’s. An artist talk and presentation will be on Wednesday, October 1st from 7pm to 9pm – reservations recommended. Emerging photographer – Paul Hewitt views our world from a perspective we often ignore or pass by. He specializes in nature where he finds the most incredible beauty and diversity. Some of his photography is done through a microscope to see the bizarre and unreal world of the super small.

Garth Gallery is featuring mixed medium through the world of Collage.

Watermelon Rind is having a book signing with author Andrea Zug for her latest novel “Vengeance”. Andrea has written 3 other novels; “Lancer Inc.”, “A Lancer Inc. Novel Death Conspiracy”, and “Lancer, Inc. South of the Border”. Copies of “Vengeance” will be on hand for $15.00.

Gramma’s Home Accents is celebrating the season by having hand crafted décor available for purchase. Along with this, they are selling Recliners for $29, Tables and Chairs for $27, and End Tables for $35.

“Tranquil Vistas … and more”

“Creating art with a feeling of tranquility and reflection is my ultimate goal.” say local Red Lion artist Judy Markel. For the past 15 years, or so, her paintings have centered around the simple joys of nature. “My beachscapes and landscapes are soothing respites for the soul.”

Judy also creates the same calming feeling on a large scale with murals and faux finishes. Entire rooms and building facades transform with colors, textures and scenes. Examples of her mural work are featured on the Gemmill Building (Red Lion) and on the Red Lion Train Station.

Judy Markel will be going smaller scale during her exhibit at Jonal Gallery/Alverta Arts Shop in Columbia when opening with a Fourth Friday Reception on October 24, 5-9pm. Featured here will be a selected group of her acrylic paintings (which she refers to as “soothing and atmospheric”), hand painted mirrors, wine glasses, light switch plates, tiles, holiday ornaments and more. Markel will have sample boards available on an array of her “faux finishes” and will also have hand painted chairs available to see and purchase. The exhibit, “Tranquil Vistas … and more” will continue through December 20.

“We featured a sampling of Judy Markel’s acrylic painting, hand painted mirrors and stemware earlier this year in our Alverta Arts Shop. Her pieces were well received and we agreed it would be a perfect exhibit to end our 2014 season. This exhibit is a larger exhibit of her works and features a great holiday, or anytime assortment.” say gallery owners John Novak and Dale Weibley.

Jonal Gallery/Alverta Arts Shop is located in the historic Mount Bethel District in the Borough of Columbia at 653 Locust Street – 17512. Gallery open: Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10am-5pm; Fourth Friday Receptions 5-9pm. For additional information: 681-9400 or visit http://www.jonalgallery.com/.
