today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” – From President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Joint Address to Congress Leading to a Declaration of War Against Japan.
- Today is the second Monday of the month; there’s a council meeting tonight at 7:00 pm according to the Website.
It it open or is it “no trespassing?”
- That the small town of Marietta can bring together so many enthusiastic, talented and amiable folks to produce quality, live theatre is remarkable. The current production at the Susquehanna Stage Company, 1940s Radio Christmas Carol, assembles a cast transformed as radio performers in December, 1943, readying for and delivering its “theatre of the mind” Christmas show from a less-than-four star hotel in Newark. Theatre goers are the audience of the boisterous, loud, eclectic confusion as the cast begins the radio station’s broadcast on Christmas eve, 1943. The production continues with a “WKRP in Cincinnati-like” ineptitude that somehow comes together. So, too, does the play … as the audience is prompted for “applause” and “laughs” throughout the play — just as live radio and tv does. In a little while, audiences begin to pull for the “talent” … this radio family on Christmas eve. It’s a trip to another time — with challenges equal, though different, to today’s — it’s worth seeing.

- H-m-m-m, noticed this, too, at the River Park. There’s a “circle-like, cul-de-sac-like” end as Walnut Street ends at the river; that’s different from the “Walnut Street Overlook” the “Walnut Street Ramp” to the initial plan.
- “The need for more recording is undeniable. Unless a bystander has a cell-phone camera ready, our knowledge of contested facts too often depends solely on the reports of police officers and the citizens with whom they interact. Although we know that most police officers do make a good faith effort to accurately report the facts, we also know that some officers do not.” – The Conversation
