some “scenes seen” around town on the day before the last day of the year

More curious than curious, noticed the tent card (below) at Hinkle’s had a “cancelled” note penned in for the New Year’s eve activities at the Turkey Hill Experience. The Chamber of Commerce Website still has the notice we carried a few days ago. There’s no mention at the THE Website. Has THE been taking guidance from the borough about providing accurate information to Columbia’s citizens and visitors? Not! Is the event on or off? Tough to say; guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Also, on the bulletin board at Hinkles, there’s a notice about casting your ballot for the Old Columbia Public Grounds board of directors.

Met Steve Bergey yesterday. Steve was walking on the correct side of the road facing traffic from Columbia to Mountville when we stopped to take his picture. Steve’s sign is a sign of the “lack of interest, lack of enthusiasm, lack of concern” he sees in the world around him and everyone. He pointed to cigarette butts on the ground where we stood to point out that peoples’ apathy or lack of concern about how carelessly discarded cigarette butts wreak a toll on the environment, especially The River’s. He noted the abundance of cigarette butts he’d seen earlier at the River Park. What’s an antonym? How about passion, caring, concern, give a damn. Rock on, Steve.

Merry Christmas, but no poopin’ here is the message at this place. Particularly poignant is the little tombstone message. Have yourself a merry little Christmas, too.

On Hinkle’s bulletin board, we noticed the First Night Hellam celebration announcement. While The THE event may or may not be happening, there’s fun and food for the entire family in Hellam.

1st night hellam
