today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today  “As with the Open Records dude, though, I am much more concerned that we have to offer $142,866 plus outstanding benefits to fill the position.  If we don’t we shouldn’t.  Everyone else has to race to the bottom, why not The Political Class?” – Comment following this PennLive article about Wolf’s political office whackings.

  • “Maybe if we don’t say it; it didn’t happen!”

shame

  • Lancaster School District asks for 11%+ tax increaseLNP – always Lancaster [NOTE: In the article, Chief Administrator Matt Przywara states the increase “doesn’t cost much, other than a little bit of bad press.” During the 2012-13 budget year, Przwara was paid $137,505. ] Not a bad deal to command increases for your own revenue stream to feed your own elephants.
  • Today it says “system” – yesterday, it said “plant”. Not a peep about “o-o-o-p-s” or “we goofed.”

columbia waterGussied up Website with the rate increase

  • At Monday night’s council meeting, the mayor wanted to make it totally clear that the borough DOES NOT OWN the Columbia Water Company. He advocated that the borough communicate its displeasure in a letter to the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission. The Columbia Water Company is a closely-held private enterprise. The newly announced rates are shown on separate tabs for Columbia and Marietta customers. There’s a tab for ABOUT US; good luck getting any real info there though. There’s no information about who are the operating chiefs and personnel at the Columbia Water Company; compare the lack of transparency with some of Pennsylvania’s other water companies. The new Website is an attractively packaged chunk of nothing.
  • Conversation at Monday’s meeting centered on the almost 30% rate increase that Columbia Water Company Customers will be receiving. Several readers of Columbia news, views & reviews have suggested the increase comes to pay for the facility revamping by the River and even the new front door at the 220 Locust Street office.
