today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today… “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.” John Adams, second President of the United States – The Big Picture

  • For the people; FCC decision guarantees open Internet. Yesterday, “the Commission—once and for all—enacts strong, sustainable rules, grounded in multiple sources of legal authority, to ensure that Americans reap the economic, social, and civic benefits of an Open Internet today and into the future. These new rules are guided by three principles: America’s broadband networks must be fast, fair and open—principles shared by the overwhelming majority of the nearly 4 million commenters who participated in the FCC’s Open Internet proceeding.”
  • One candidate, Miles Bixler, has begun his campaign for the office of Magisterial District Judge of the 02-1-03 District. Rumors persist that there are as many as eight or nine folks who are chucking their hats into the ring for this office.
  • The filing date for this elected office is less than two weeks away. The Lancaster Voter Registration & Board of Elections office, located in the county’s office building is responsible for “Receiving and retaining Statements of Financial Interest for candidates, nominees, public officials, public employees, or solicitors.” No filings are registered yet with the Board of Elections.
  • Last week an opinion column at LNP – Always Lancaster questioned the party selection process – and so, too, did many of the commenters following the opinion. Did you see the “official” party responses in yesterday’s LNP – Always Lancaster. The ruling parties in the two party system speak up to defend and protect the traditional way of doing business: the majority party’s position and the other side’s. And for those who are registered with no party or Independent or another party? Tough!

political signCole Umber captured this political offering of Democratic candidates though we’re unclear about which offices they’re seeking, school board, council, district judge?

  • LEGAL NOTICE announces the ordinance that “authorized the execution and delivery of a certain subsidy agreement by and between the Borough and the Lancaster Area Sewer Authority.”
