Here’s a pretty good definition of social media: “Any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other visitors falls into the definition of social media.”

This one, too, says: “Social Media is the future of communication, a countless array of internet based tools and platforms that increase and enhance the sharing of information. This new form of media makes the transfer of text, photos, audio, video, and information in general increasingly fluid among internet users.”

Middletown uses its facebook site to communicate quickly with citizens tuned to this one social media outlet.

Columbia Borough does not have a facebook page.

Consider:

  • 72% of online adults use facebook at least once a month.
  • 31% of all US senior citizens use facebook.
