today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today “We have a limited tax base and the current system forces us to tax more frequently, and at higher amounts, than our neighbors. Why should our zip code determine the opportunities that are available for our students?”‘ – Columbia’s superintendent in this Lancaster Online article.

  • Schools continue to spend and tax rather than look for cost-cutting. This Lancaster Online article shows 14 school districts raise taxes. Columbia will raise taxes by two percent.
  • Try this when you need to add to your revenue stream (because you want to maintain your living standard); tell your boss (or your income stream provider) you JUST GOTTA HAVE A TWO PERCENT INCREASE.

SCORECARD

  • Notice the “municipal briefs” in today’s LNP – Always Lancaster? Notice the briefs from Columbia’s meeting? What, there were none?
  • Another news abyss: This is posted at a facebook site – “Im asking all of my friends to please repost this on your wall in hopes to help find 14 year old Sebastian Lorenzo Keith of Columbia PA. If you have any information please contact the Columbia Boro Police Dept. He has been missing for 24 hours.” Anything on the Columbia Police Department facebook site? N-ah!
