Given all the recent attention to those who flaunt history and sensitivity, people may question the mettle, sincerity and ignorance of those who fly the flag.
Do they know the history of the flag? Here’s an article about the “stars and bars.”
There is a lot of clatter and assumed pride about being a redneck. “It makes you wonder if the originators of the every present “redneck” joke are aware of the term’s origins – Rednecks.” –
“Being a Redneck now (in the 17th and 18th centuries) took on a somewhat twisted means to recognition. Most of the working poor spent long hours outdoors hunting and farming so were easily distinguishable by the reddened skin on their face, neck, and hands.”
“Starting around 1898, well before it became an icon of redneck backlash, the Confederate Battle Flag served for half a century as an important pennant in the expanding American empire and a symbol of national unification, not polarization.”
