What can happen when citizens aren’t invested or involved …

Here’s a PennLive article about a river town: Steelton.

“Mayor Tom Acri previously said Gellatly and King signed off on building permits for some small projects, although he said they didn’t sign off on projects that needed building, plumbing or electrical inspections.

“Acri said they did nothing wrong. ‘They were just little backyard stuff,’ he said in July. ‘Stuff that didn’t need [to be] inspected.’”

But it’s OK to pay the police chief $111,000 plus benefits and the borough manager “$39,624 in 2012, and … $73,381 in 2014.” All this in a river town of just under 6,000 people with an average household income of under $44,000.

One resident says, “They don’t care about the people here. I like Steelton, but when it comes to what the people need, it’s not the best.
