Voice of America … April 6 … Geez, the news gets worse for Japan: “Japanese Plug Nuclear Plant Leak, Now Face Hydrogen Build-up.” “Troubles continue at Japan’s crippled nuclear plant, where technicians believe they have solved one big problem but are confronting another.

“Officials said Wednesday they have finally stopped a leak of radioactive water from the Fukushima power station that was raising radiation in the nearby ocean to millions of times the legal limit.

“But now they are worried about a build-up of hydrogen inside the containment vessel at another of the plant’s six reactors, creating the risk of an explosion that could release large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere. Plant officials said they may pump nitrogen into the reactor in an attempt to halt the chemical reaction.”

April 5 … “Japan Resumes Pumping Radioactive Water Into Nearby Sea.” This cannot be a good thing; think about the BP president’s comment, “There is nothing to worry about; it’s ‘sweet crude.'” The article states, “Nuclear technicians have resumed pumping radioactive water from Japan’s crippled nuclear plant into the nearby ocean, where radioactivity levels several million times the allowable limit are now being reported.”

Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era … April 4 … “State disciplines several local licensed professionals” A just -posted article states, “The Pennsylvania Department of State has announced disciplinary actions against numerous licensed professionals or those seeking licenses to work in Lancaster County.” The article continued, “Mick and Company Hair Design in Columbia was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $2,200 in early March because it practiced cosmetology in a  ‘grossly incompetent or unethical manner,’ according to the State Department. The firm failed to maintain clean towels in a closed container, and failed to maintain tools, instruments, utensils and appliances that come in contact with a client in a sanitary condition at all times, according to the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs.”

Letters to the editor that we found of interest. A writer from Lancaster writes about “nuisance bars;” a Lancaster County judge just suspended the liquor license of a city establishment that was considered a public nuisance. Citizens can make a difference! And an East Lampeter Township writer wonders why “we (the United States) have established the wonderful precedent of a coalition of the historically impaired: wars without end.”
