OLA student will compete in Spelling Bee

Hannah Knowlton, 13, daughter of Felicia and Allen Knowlton of Columbia, Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School, will be among the 32 county competitors in the 53rd Annual Spelling Bee, according to an article in today’s Intelligencer Journal/New Era.  Hannah’s picture is on page A-5; pick up a copy of the newspaper to see her picture and the other competitors.

The article continues that the newspaper publisher’s Website will have Live online coverage on Friday; visit www.lancasteronline.com; keyword: spelling Bee.

The area winner will advance to the national final competition in Washington, DC.; according to the National Spelling Bee Website, “Students prepare for local spelling bees using a variety of materials provided by us and Merriam-Webster, and they advance to Scripps National Spelling Bee (June 1 and 2, 2011) near Washington, D.C., by winning a series of spellings as outlined by their local spelling bee sponsors. In general terms, the program is open to students who have neither turned 16 nor passed beyond the eighth grade, and who attend schools that officially enrolled with our program for the current academic year.”

Congratulations, Hannah … Columbia will be watching and rooting for you!
