today’s news … Wednesday, July 13

today’s news and information gleanings from here and there! Today’s Weather!   Today in History!

Quote for today“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things. For the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order, this lukewarmness arising partly from fear of their adversaries … and partly from the incredulity of mankind, who do not truly believe in anything new until they have had actual experience of it.” – Nicolo Machievelli

  1. You’re right 17512, under Meiskey’s watch, Do-little and other slumlords have gotten away with doing whatever they want to do. To hell with codes, zoning or any other hoops that the taxpayers of the Borough have to jump through to do anything to their properties, if your buddies with Norm Meiskey, it just get shoved through and swept under the rug. Remember a few years ago when Meiskey and Council left a Historic building be torn down by Colonial Metals because the Borough needs something from Colonial Metals? Big time politics in a small town and Meiskey will let certain people do what they want. Until we rid ourselves of this cancer, the residents of Columbia will continue to pay the price!

  2. As of 2 months ago, the borough still did not have the agreement in place for which the Colonial Metals building was permitted to be demolished.

40 N 3rd St needs a new roof before they can obtain a certificate of occupancy. So this should be interesting.
